Inchcailloch Island, Loch Lomond

I live just a few miles away from one of the most beautiful places in Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park - Inchcailloch Island.

On this blog you will see some examples of my photography and video projects on Inchcailloch Island. These include portraits, weddings, photography training courses as well as short films and landscape photography that have been used to promote the island.

Inchcailloch Island is one of over 50 islands on Loch Lomond and is one of the 22 that have been named. It's a nature reserve and accessible, by ferry, from the village of Balmaha along the east side of Loch Lomond.

The Highway Boundary Fault line cuts through the island. The fault line runs right across Scotland from the Isle of Arran in the west, to Stonehaven in the east. The line marks the divide between the Lowlands and Highlands of Scotland.

Inchcailloch Island has its own highlands and lowlands. From the highest point of the island you get some magnificent views across Loch Lomond and some of its other islands. To reach this point you climb a circular path, which is very much like a large spiral staircase.

Also on the island are some beautiful woodlands, an ancient burial ground, plus at the south end of the island a sandy beach at Port Bawn.

The ferry to the island is managed by The Balmaha Boatyard and here is a film that I produced for the conservation and heritage charity The Friends of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs about its owner Sandy MacFarlane. Sandy also runs the iconic mail boat service, delivering the post to the island communities.

It's worth a trip to Inchailloch Island even if just for the ferry crossing on Sandy's wooden boats.

Back to my work on the island and I have had the pleasure of photographing families on the island. A great time to do this in May is when the island is covered in Bluebells.

I have also held Photography Training Workshops on the island.

This is a popular place for Pre-Wedding Photography Sessions. A chance for couples to get used to having their photograph taken ahead of their big day!

I've also photographed weddings on the island. This is when the couples have had the ceremony in Loch Lomond and have chosen to then visit for photography.

I have photographed this island for both Love Loch Lomond (Destination Tourism Organisation) and The Friends of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs (Convservation & Heritage charity). I've also produced some films for them on the island, you can see them below. (I presented the one for Love Loch Lomond).

You can see why I love Inchcailloch so much. I'll be writing a new blog soon to feature more of my landscape photography of the island.
