10 Must Have Wedding Photographs
Here are 10 types of must have wedding photographs. Using some of my photographs, from a range of weddings photographed in Loch Lomond, Glasgow and Edinburgh, as examples.
1. Getting Ready
I love the getting ready photographs. They’re not just hair and make-up preparations, they are pictures that represent a beautiful part of the day. This is when the emotions start to come out and there is a great level of anticipation.
It’s not just about the bride, or the groom though as they get ready separately, it’s also about the people that they have chosen to share these special moments with.
The dress, shoes, jewellery, rings, presents etc. can all be recorded. I like getting creative with the backgrounds, this was as you can see from an autumn wedding.
You get all kinds of emotion at the ceremony. The nervous exchanged looks, the tears of laughter and joy.

Portraits of the bride, groom and key guests.
The people that you’ve chosen to celebrate with you also need to be featured. Read more about the importance of getting photographs of your wedding guests at the link below.
6. Natural Moments
As well as the portraits, detail and group photographs everyone wants the natural photographs. I love capturing wonderful moments like this one.
7. Sense of Place
I’m always looking to showcase the venue, or location that the couple have chosen. Particularly as there are so many wonderful wedding venues in Scotland.
Photographs of the couple together, newly married, in a natural embrace. Nothing forced or artificial here!
9. Special Touches
Couples invest lots of time and money to feature unique elements to their wedding. I like to capture these as they help to tell the story of the day.
10. Happy Ever After
Finding a place for the couple to look to their future together. Photographs like this one on Inchcailloch Island can be used on the cover, or last pages of a wedding album.
